Normoblasts in large for gestational age infants.
Thirty one term large for gestational age (LGA) infants of non-diabetic mothers were compared with 30 appropriate for gestational age controls. Median absolute nucleated red blood cell counts, lymphocyte counts, and packed cell volumes were significantly higher in the LGA infants than the controls. It is possible that LGA babies of non-diabetic mothers are exposed to relative intrauterine hypoxia.
متن کاملComparisons of mortality and pre-discharge respiratory morbidities in small for gestational age and appropriate-for gestational age premature infants - An Indian Experience
Background: There is an assumption that fetus with restricted growth with an inappropriate intrauterine environment lies under stress. Although small-for-gestational-age (SGA) infants have higher mortality, difference in the outcome of SGA and appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA) infants regarding respiratory morbidity is controversial. It seems that respiratory morbidities in SGA neonates is ...
متن کاملOmphalitis in term and preterm appropriate for gestational age and small for gestational age infants.
To determine whether there is a difference on the historical and clinical characteristics of omphalitis among term and preterm appropriate for gestational age (AGA) and small for gestational age (SGA) infants, we prospectively investigated 85 newborns with bacteriologically proved omphalitis. Study groups were based on gestational age and being SGA. Preterm AGA infants had significantly lower m...
متن کاملRisk factors for large-for-gestational age infants in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes
BACKGROUND The rate of neonatal overweight remains generally high in type 1 diabetes (T1DM). Since glycemic control has improved over time other contributors need to be identified. Our aim is to evaluate the risk factors for large-for-gestational age infants (LGA) in women with T1DM and to evaluate whether the rate of LGA decreased over time. METHODS Retrospective analysis of the medical file...

rate in terms of the amount of sweat produced and the virtual absence of failures. On the first day of life the average level of sweat sodium was decidedly higher than on the second and subsequent days, with an appreciable number of day 1 results exceeding the level of 70 mEq/1., generally accepted as the upper limit of normal. In one case the level was as high as 138 mEq/1. All 5 out of the 6 ...
